| ru_RU |
dc.description.abstract | The graduate qualification paper is devoted to the analysis of the text of Enomoto Takeaki's "The Siberian Diary", which is an important source of the history Russian-Japanese relations. The purpose of this study is to reflect the image of Russia based on the materials of the diary. The investigation’s tasks are: to consider the classification of sources of personal origin and the methodology of working with them; to make the most complete representation of the personality and life path of Enomoto Takeaki; to describe and study "The Siberian Diary"; to analyze the circumstances of writing "The Siberian Diary"; to reflect the image of Russia described on the pages of "The Siberian Diary". The main sources used were the original of "The Siberian Diary" of 1878, the modern version of 2010 by Heibonsia Publishing house, as well as one of its early printed versions of 1939. In addition, other materials directly related to the Enomoto Takeaki’s life were involved. Among the works used in the study we distinguish the articles by Japanese researchers Professor Nakamura Yoshikazu and Enomoto Takamitsu devoted to the personality of the diary’s author. The first chapter of the paper provides a classification of sources of personal origin, their genres, types, and methodology of study. The second chapter reveals the life path of the diary’s author, including his origin, education, military, diplomatic, political and social activities. The third chapter is the main one in this research. It presents both the circumstances of writing "The Siberian Diary", its classification, travel goals, route, preparation for the journey, and the general image of Russia reflected by Enomoto. The most important aspects are considered in more detail, such as: the mood of society and the authorities of the Russian Empire, Russian-Chinese relations, national minorities issue. It is important to note that the author of the study does not solve the problem of comparative analysis of the diary. In addition, the section provides a brief history of the image of Russia in Japanese society, which is necessary for understanding the problem of the research. "The Siberian Diary" is a stage in the formation of the modern perception of Russia in the Japanese society, which is important in the context of complex Russian-Japanese relations. As the first Japanese envoy to St. Petersburg, Enomoto had to solve the task of finding out whether the northern neighbor poses a threat to Japan or not. Personally, the diplomat believed that the fears were exaggerated and took a pro-Russian position. The diary is a continuation of the Japanese vision of the Russian Empire as a large country with a cold climate, large reserves of natural resources, and advanced technologies. The envoy's journey gave him a chance to come to an original conclusion that Russia had no intentions of conquering neighboring eastern states, including Japan. | en_GB |
