The International Tchaikovsky Competition as a Strategic and Cultural Indicator of Changes in the Chinese Piano School

Abstract

Настоящая выпускная квалификационная работа раскрывает значение Международного конкурса Чайковского как отражение эволюции фортепьянной школы в Китае через драматизм судеб китайских пианистов, влияние политики, культурных особенностей и традиций Китая на исполнительское искусство. Работа сосредотачивается на изучении влияния политики и культуры на китайскую школу фортепианного искусства в период первых десяти лет основания Нового Китая. Учитываются и изменения в международных отношениях между Китаем и Россией. По целому ряду причин эти темы не были полностью раскрыты в Китае.

В работе автор впервые предпринимает попытку периодизации этапов становления китайской исполнительской школы, связанной с участием музыкантов в Международном конкурсе имени Чайковского.

Материалами работы являются научные статьи, Буклеты и видеозаписи Международного музыкального конкурса им. П.И. Чайковского, рецензии жюри и личные интервью с победителями, также материалы, вошедшие в подкаст автора, посвященные обсуждению Конкурса, - авторский исследовательский проект о конкурсе.

This graduation thesis is devoted to reveal the significance of the International Tchaikovsky Competition as a reflection of the evolution of the piano school in China through the dramatic fate of Chinese pianists, the influence of politics, cultural characteristics and traditions of China on the performing arts. The work focuses on the study of the influence of politics and culture on the Chinese piano school of art during the first ten years of the founding of New China. Changes in international relations between China and Russia are also taken into account. The amount of research devoted to these topics is very small, especially in Russian language. This fact determines the novelty and actuality of this work.

More over, the author for the first time makes an attempt to periodize the stages of formation of the Chinese performing school associated with the Chinese contestants in the International Tchaikovsky Competition.

Materials of the work include academic articles, booklets and videos of the International Tchaikovsky Competition, jury reviews and personal interviews of the winners, as well as materials included in the author's podcast dedicated to the discussion of the Competition - the author's research project about the competition.
