Restoration of a plaster figure for a competition design for the Vladimir Lenin monument on Vosstaniya Square in Leningrad (The State Museum of Urban Sculpture)

Abstract

Проведена реставрация гипсовой фигуры к конкурсному проекту памятника В.И. Ленину для площади Восстания в Ленинграде (Государственный музей городской скульптуры) . До начала работ были проведены лабораторные исследования (микологический и петрографический анализы). Изучена поверхность памятника с помощью портативного микроскопа USB SITITEK "Микрон Mobile" 5 Mpix (500 X Zoom) с интерполяцией до 12 Mpix, оборудованного цифровой камерой. Произведен комплекс реставрационных работ, в результате которых поверхность гипса расчищена от всех видов загрязнений, восполнены утраченные фрагменты, выполнена мастиковка литьевых каверн и сколов, затонированы пятна ржавчины, восстановлен инвентарный номер. Памятник приведен в экспозиционный вид. В ходе работы была уточнена техника изготовления памятника – обнаружен красочный слой (ранее считалось, что предмет выполнен из не тонированного гипса). Был уточнён вес памятника. Также была проведена фотофиксация всех этапов работы и выполнены картограммы повреждений.

The restoration of the plaster figure for the competition project of the monument to V.I. Lenin for Uprising Square in Leningrad (State Museum of Urban Sculpture). Prior to the start of work, laboratory studies were carried out (mycological and petrographic analyzes). The surface of the monument was studied using a portable USB microscope SITITEK "Mikron Mobile" 5 Mpix (500 X Zoom) with interpolation up to 12 Mpix, equipped with a digital camera. A complex of restoration works was carried out, as a result of which the surface of the gypsum was cleared of all types of contamination, the lost fragments were replenished, mastication of casting cavities and chips was completed, rust stains were toned, and the inventory number was restored. The monument has been put on display. In the course of the work, the technique for making the monument was clarified - a paint layer was discovered (previously it was believed that the object was made of untinted gypsum). The weight of the monument was specified. Photofixation of all stages of work was also carried out and cartograms of damages were made.
