Developing and evolution of marquetry in French furniture

Abstract

Диссертация посвящена исследованию техник произведений наборного дерева в Италии и Франции. Центральное внимание уделено выявлению этимологии термина маркетри и эволюции его значения в разное время. Исследование построено на основе изучения трактовки термина в описях коллекций XIII века, современных французских этимологических словарях и словарях XIX века. Исследование включает перевод работы Андрэ-Жакоба Рубо «Чернодеревное искусство», в котором автор весьма своеобразно обозначает границы использования термина маркетри и описывает технологию изготовления облицованных изделий в XVIII веке. К анализу также привлечена работа известного маркетриста XX века Пьера Рамона, в которой уточняется значение термина для сегодняшнего дня. Таким образом в научный оборот вводится термины техник создания произведений наборного дерева и уточняется значение термина маркетри. Так как «Чернодеревное искусство» написано на французском языке XVIII века и содержит много профессиональной лексики, к тексту даны комментарии и проведены параллели с сегодняшним днем, чтобы сделать текст доступным для любого читателя.

The master’s theses is devoted to the study of wooden mosaic techniques in Italy and France. The central attention is paid to revealing the etymology of the term marquetry and the evolution of its meaning at different times. The theses is based on the study of the interpretation of the term in the descriptions of collections of the 13th century, modern French etymological dictionaries and dictionaries of the 19th century. The study includes a translation of the work of Andre-Jacob Roubo " L’art du menuisier-ébéniste "into Russian, in which the author very peculiarly defines the boundaries of the use of the term marquetry and describes the technology of manufacturing veneered products of the 18th century. The analysis also involved the work of the well-known marqueter of the 20th century, Pierre Ramon, which clarifies the meaning of the term for today. Thus, the terms of the techniques for creating wooden mosaic are introduced into scientific circulation and the meaning of the term marquetry is clarified. “L’art du menuisier-ébéniste” is written in the 18Ith century language which differs from today’s French tongue. And it has a lot of words describing woodworking jargon. This is why the text was completed with comments in order to make it understandable for every reader.
