Semantic field of anxiety in the Russian language literature of the first third of the XX century

Abstract

В работе ставится задача проследить истоки тревоги и способы выражения этого чувства в поэтике русскоязычной модернистской литературы. Лингвостилистический анализ проводится применительно к роману Ю. Олеши «Зависть» и повести О. Мандельштама «Египетская марка» и показывает, что язык тревоги прослеживается в поэтике избранных произведений. В его основе могут лежать причины, связанные с глобальными историческими событиями и самой ролью феномена экзистенциальной тревоги в человеческом существовании. Концептуализация тревоги в русском языке открывает возможность ее поэтизации за счет дихотомии «изнутри-снаружи», что было продемонстрировано на примере систем метафор пространства. Язык тревоги, исследуемый в данной работе, проявляется в художественном тексте преимущественно с помощью метафор, в частности, благодаря системе «метафорических концептов», о которых пишут Лакофф и Джонсон. Чувство тревоги распознается читателем в тексте благодаря первичности «цели» в метафоре согласно теории двунаправленности, и по модели чтения К. Оутли. Мотивы, порождающие тревогу, которые встречаются в текстах «Египетского Марка» и «Зависти», связаны с контекстом событий первой трети ХХ века.

The work aims to trace the causes of anxiety and ways of expressing this feeling in poetics of Russian language modernistic literature. The linguistic and stylistic analysis is carried out in relation to the novel by Yu. Olesha "Envy" and the story by O. Mandelstam "Egyptian stamp" and shows that the language of anxiety can be traced in the poetics of selected works. It may be based on reasons related to global historical events and the very role of the phenomenon of existential anxiety in human essence. The conceptualization of anxiety in the Russian language opens up the possibility of its poeticization due to the dichotomy "from inside-out", which was demonstrated by the example of systems of metaphors of space. The language of anxiety studied in this work is manifested in the literary text mainly with the help of metaphors, in particular, because of the rules of the system of “metaphorical concepts”, first studied by Lakoff and Johnson. The feeling of anxiety is recognized by the reader in the text due to the primacy of the “target” in the metaphor and according to the reading model of K. Oatley. The motives that give rise to anxiety found in the texts of the "Egyptian Mark" and "Envy" are associated with the context of the events of the first third of the 20th century.
