The study of Russian in Japan: From the 19th to the early 21st centuries

Abstract

Выпускная квалификационная работа посвящена истории изучения русского языка в Японии в XIX—начале XXI вв. Автор анализирует отличительные черты преподавания русского языка в стране с учетом влияния, которое оказывали на него новые тенденции в российско-японских отношениях. Рассмотрены внутренние, внешние и глобальные факторы, оказывающие влияние на процесс изучения русского языка, а также пики и спады этого процесса. Работа освещает мотивацию японцев, в разные времена изучавших русский язык. Проанализирована также современная ситуация в сфере изучения и преподавания русского языка.

The graduation paper explores the history of the study of Russian language in Japan from the 19th to the beginning of the 21th century. The author analyses the characteristic features of teaching Russian in the country with regard of the influence of the developments in Russia-Japan relations. Internal, external and global factors and their impact on the study of Russian are under consideration as well as the peaks and declines of this process. The paper discusses the motivations of Japanese learners of Russian language at different epochs. The current situation in the sphere is also given attention.
