Research adviser’s review on bachelor's thesis of the student of St.Petersburg University Rakhmatullin Ilia «The study of Russian in Japan: From the 19th to the early 21th centuries» The bachelor thesis of Rakhmatullin Ilya Vladislavovich is devoted to the study of the historical process of studying the Russian language in Japan. The paper consists of an introduction, three chapters, a conclusion and a list of references. The bibliography includes 37 titles, 7 of which are in Japanese. The total volume of the paper is 57 pages. In the first chapter, the author examines the history of the study and teaching of the Russian language by the Japanese in the 19th century. The historical prerequisites of the process under study are analyzed in detail, a holistic description of the initial stage of learning Russian is given as well as the analysis of the activities of individual educational institutions. In the second chapter, the author examines the history of the study of the Russian language in Japan in the period from the beginning of the 20th century to 1991. The choice of the end date of the period is determined by the historical context: the collapse of the USSR in 1991 led to qualitative changes in the study and teaching of the Russian language in Japan. In the third chapter, the author makes an attempt to give a detailed description of the current stage in the study of the Russian language. Internal, external and global factors influencing the development of the sphere of studying the Russian language at the present time are analyzed. Despite the presence of some shortcomings in the design of the paper and minor comments on its content, questions and critical comments that arose during the reading are few and do not affect the overall positive impression of the work. The bachelor thesis of Ilia Rakhmatullin meets the requirements for bachelor thesis at the Faculty of Asian and African studies of St.Petersburg University and deserves a high positive assessment.
