"Burmese Days" by George Orwell: The English original and the Burmese translation

Abstract

Одним из самых известных английских писателей ХХ века можно считать Дж. Оруэлла. В работе изучен его роман «Дни в Бирме» и перевод произведения на бирманский язык, представлены работы, посвященные интерпретациям взглядов писателя на колонизаторскую политику. Также рассматривается проблема перевода различных классов англоязычной безэквивалентной лексики и проблема перевода в постколониальном контексте. Роман «Дни в Бирме» и его перевод на бирманский язык рассмотрены с точки зрения сохранения текстуальной эквивалентности в постколониальном контексте и передачи культурно-маркированной лексики.

One of the most famous English writers of the twentieth century can be considered J. Orwell. This thesis studies his novel "Days in Burma" and its translation into Burmese, and presents works devoted to interpretations of the writer's views on the colonial policy. The problem of translating different classes of English-language non-equivalent vocabulary and the problem of translation in a postcolonial context are also examined. The novel "Days in Burma" and its translation into Burmese are discussed in terms of textual equivalence in the postcolonial context and the transfer of culturally-marked vocabulary.
