The influence of the sports industry on the brand of St. Petersburg

Abstract

В данной работе рассматривается влияние спортивной индустрии Санкт-Петербурга на бренд города. Автор рассматривает основные принципы формирования брендов территорий и ключевые особенности развития брендов городов. В работе проанализирована эволюция городского бренда Санкт-Петербурга, а также роли спорта в формировании концепций бренда города. Также автор рассматривает локальное позиционирование основных спортивных брендов города - футбольного клуба «Зенит», хоккейного клуба СКА и теннисных турниров St. Petersburg Open и St. Petersburg Ladies’ Trophy. В конце исследования автор приходит к выводу о важности спортивных брендов Санкт-Петербурга с точки зрения выстраивания городского бренда на международной арене.

This master thesis is devoted to the impact of the sports industry of St. Petersburg on the city brand. The author considers the basic principles of the formation of territories’ brands and key features of the development of city brands. The evolution of the city brand of St. Petersburg, as well as the role of sports in the formation of the concepts of the city brand are analysed. The author also considers the local positioning of the main sports brands of the city - Football Club Zenit, Ice Hockey Club SKA and also St. Petersburg Open and St. Petersburg Ladies’ Trophy tennis tournaments. The author concludes that the sports brands of St. Petersburg in terms of building an urban brand in the international arena are quite important.
