Clauses with the forms of the verb "to be" in Russian oral speech: A corpus-based study

Abstract

В работе представлено исследование, посвященное анализу клауз с глаголом быть в русской устной речи. Семантические и синтаксические аспекты функционирования глагола быть анализируются посредством создания «инвентаря» семантических ролей, которыми могут обладать его актанты и сирконстанты, а также списка способов кодирования этих ролей в русской устной речи. Актуальность данной работы обусловлена ее принадлежностью к более крупному исследовательскому проекту, цель которого – разработать алгоритм взаимодействия различных уровней языка в процессе восприятия речи. Результаты данного исследования дополнят информацией о семантическом и синтаксическом уровнях языка базу данных, на которых основывается функционирование алгоритма.

The paper presents an analysis of clauses with the verb ‘быть’ in Russian oral speech. The semantic and syntactic aspects of the functioning of the verb are analyzed via creating an ‘inventory’ of semantic roles of its arguments and adjuncts, as well as a list of ways to encode these roles in Russian oral speech. The relevance of this paper is due to its belonging to a larger research project, the purpose of which is to develop an algorithm of automatic speech processing that would consider all the levels of language. The results of this study supplement the database on which the functioning of the algorithm is based with information about the semantic and syntactic levels of the language.
