China's political presence in East Africa: Specific features

Abstract

Магистерская диссертация посвящена исследованию особенностей политического присутствия КНР в регионе Восточной Африки. Под политическим присутствием мы понимаем комплекс факторов, влияющих на политическую и экономическую деятельность государства в другом государстве, которые соответствуют интересам первого. Среди этих факторов: угрозы интересам страны, заинтересованной в политическом присутствии; политические, экономические и дипломатические особенности ведения внешней политики государства, осуществляющего политического присутствие в отношении страны присутствия; особенности отношений двух сторон в исторической ретроспективе; виды сотрудничества. В рамках анализа политического присутствия Китая в странах Восточной Африки был проведен полный, подробный анализ политических и экономических факторов сотрудничества Китая со странами Восточной Африки в рамках соперничества КНР с другими внешнеполитическими лидерами региона – США и Индией. Так же был проведен анализ сотрудничества Китая со странами Восточной Африки, охватывающем все основные области экономического и политического сотрудничества со всеобъемлющей оценкой достоинств и недостатков Китая как экономического и политического партнера. Были выявлены угрозы и перспективы политического присутствия, что не отражается в полном объеме в современной российской научной литературе, поскольку многие авторы не уделяют должного внимая региону Восточной Африки.

The master's thesis is devoted to the study of the features of China's political presence in the East African region. As a political presence we understand the variety of factors that affects political and economic activities of a state in another state, that corresponds to the interests of the former. Among these factors are: challenges and a threat the state faces in the region of interest; political, economic and diplomatic aspects of the country's foreign policy, who performs the political presence in the country of interest; specific character of relations between the counterparts viewed in historical retrospective; types of cooperation. Within the framework of the analysis of China's political presence in East Africa there was held a comprehensive analysis of the political and economic factors of China’s cooperation with the East-African countries to the extent of the Chinese competition with other leading countries in the region - the United States and India. Moreover, China’s cooperation with the countries of East Africa was studied that covers analysis of all major areas of economic and political cooperation with a comprehensive assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of China as an economic and political partner. Threats and prospects for a political presence were identified as far as this issue is not fully reflected in the modern Russian scientific literature, since many authors do not pay enough attention to the region of East Africa.
