Architect Konstantin Romanov and his Contribution to Museum Studies and the Protection and Preservation of Monuments in Russia during the First Third of the 20th Century (Based on the Architect’s Archive)

Abstract

Выпускная квалификационная работа посвящена деятельность выдающегося ученого К.К. Романова (1882-1942гг.). На основании архивных материалов фонда исследователя, впервые предлагается попытка рассмотреть аспекты работы К.К. Романова в области музейного дела и охраны памятников, а также его вклад в развитие данных дисциплин. В работе анализируется специфика деятельности ученого во время работы в Этнографическом отделе Русского музея, а также в составлении методических рекомендаций по работе музеев Пскова и Новгорода. Раскрывается роль К.К. Романова в восстановлении усадьбы «Михайловское» в 1937г. В работе также освещены основные этапы работы ученого по изучению ремонту и реставрации памятников архитектуры Северо-Запада различных эпох. На основании данных о профессиональной деятельности К.К. Романова прослежены основные тенденции в развитии музейного дела, реставрационной теории и практики в России в первой трети XX в. которые характеризуются проектами комплексной музеефикации памятников архитектуры, а также выработкой принципов научной реставрации, характерной для Петроградских специалистов.

The research work is dedicated to the activities of the outstanding scientist K.K. Romanov (1822-1942). The research work, based on archival materials, is the first attempt to consider aspects of activities of the architect K.K. Romanov in the field of museum studies and the preservation of historical monuments, as well as his contribution to the development of these disciplines. The research work analyzes the specifics of the scientist's work in the Ethnographic Department of the Russian Museum, as well as in compiling methodological recommendations for the museums of Pskov and Novgorod. The work also reveals the role of K.K. Romanov in the restoration of the estate "Mikhailovsky" in 1937. The research also highlights the stages of the scientist's work on the repair and restoration of architectural monuments of the North-West of various eras. Based on data of the professional activities of K.K. Romanov, research traced the main trends in the development of museum studies, restoration theory and practice in Russia in the first third of the 20th century, which are characterized by projects of complex museumification of architectural monuments, as well as the development of principles of scientific restoration, characteristic of Petrograd specialists.
