New research about the siege of Leningrad

Abstract

In the article “New investigations of the siege of Leningrad” the author reviews the recently published second book of the monograph by Gennadiy L. Sobolev «Leningrad in the struggle for survival in the siege — “Book second. June 1942 — January 1943” (St. Petersburg, Publishing House of St. Petersburg State University, 2015, 526 p.). It is noted that for many years the people of Leningrad have waited for the appearance of such a book, objectively showing the difficult situation of Leningrad during the Great Patriotic War. The article traces the changes in attitude to the siege of Leningrad during the war and postwar development of the state and some trends in the development of the Soviet and post-Soviet historiography. The author examines the contribution of Gennadiy L. Sobolev to the study issue of scientific novelty and put forward ideas. “Leningrad in the struggle for survival in the siege” continued the trend begun in the years of the Great Patriotic War, the film Leningrad in the struggle. The film was met with enthusiasm at the front, and less enthusiastically in Leningrad. People of Leningrad wanted to see the truth of Leningrad’s siege. The monograph Leningrad in the struggle for survival in the blockade objectively considered not only the fight, but the price of victory. Refs 13.
