Ekaterina Balobanova, the Librarian of the Bestuzhev Сourses: Works, Documents, Memoirs / Selection, Article and Notes by A.V.Vostrikov

Abstract

The book is dedicated to Ekaterina Vyacheslavovna Balobanova (1847–1927), who was the librarian of the St. Petersburg Higher Women's Courses. (Bestuzhev Сourses) throughout the time of the existence of the courses. Balobanova was the first librarian in Russia who received special education in European school (The university of Gottingen). She was the author of the first textbook on librarianship in the Russian language. The reissue of E.V.Balobanova book “Librarianship” which has became a rarity reveals her theoretical views. The publication of archival documents which have never been published before shows her practical activities in the library of Higher Bestuzhev Courses with particular focus on the biography of a remarkable woman, her scientific research (Celtic studies, studies in ethnography and folklore), her educational and literary activity. Publication of materials is accompanied by an article and commentaries. The edition is addressed to specialists in the history of library work in Russia, the history of women’s education as well as a wide range or readers interested in the history of our country.

Издание посвящено Екатерине Вячеславовне Балобановой (1847–1927), бессменному, на протяжении всего времени существования, библиотекарю С.-Петербургских Высших женских («Бестужевских») курсов. Балобанова была первым в России библиотекарем, получившим специальное образование в европейском учебном заведении (Геттингенском университете), автором первого пособия по библиотечному делу на русском языке. Переиздание ставшей книжной редкостью работы Е.В.Балобановой «Библиотечное дело» раскрывает ее теоретические взгляды; публикация ранее не печатавшихся архивных документов показывает ее практическую деятельность в библиотеке ВЖК; особое внимание уделено биографии замечательной женщины, ее научной (кельтолог, этнограф и фольклорист), просветительской и литературной деятельности. Публикация материалов сопровождена статьей и комментариями. Издание адресовано как специалистам по истории библиотечного дела России, истории женского образования, так и широкому кругу читателей, интересующихся историей нашего Отечества.
