The Status and Functions of Represented Speech in Fictional Narrative Text

Abstract

The paper dwells on the fi gurative and the functional features of narrative speech and the speech of characters in fi ctional narrative. The features are treated as a “secondary layer” in the model of the author’s speech activity, this model, in its turn, is understood as refl ecting not only the specifi city of artistically determined speech activity, but also of the authors’ individual vision of reality an individual style.
