A study of steric level oscillation in the northwestern part of the Pacific: Satellite data analysis

Abstract

Целью данной работы является исследование стерических колебаний в северной части Тихого океана, включающей северо-западный бассейн Тихого океана, на основе комплексного использования спутниковых альтиметрических и гравиметрических измерений. Указанная цель достигается путем решения следующих задач: обзор литературы по теме исследования, физико-географическое описание исследуемого района, расчет стерических колебаний уровня по комбинированным спутниковым альтиметрическим данным и измерениям спутника GRACE, нуждающиеся в синхронизации, построение карт для северной части Тихого океана. По полученным данным были проанализированы сезонная и межгодовая изменчивости уровня в северной части Тихого океана. Были рассчитаны тренды, был оценен вклад стерических колебаний, которые составляет чуть менее половины изменчивости уровня в данной акватории. Также для стерических колебаний была построена карта коэффициентов линейного тренда. Сделанные расчеты позволили выделить северо-западную часть Тихого океана, где значения стерических колебаний уровня наиболее высокие.

The aim of this work is to study steric oscillation in the North Pacific, including the northwestern Pacific, based on the integrated use of satellite altimetric and gravimetric measurements. This goal is achieved by solving the following tasks: review of the previous literature on the research topic, physiographic description of the study area, calculation of steric level oscillation from combined satellite altimetry data and GRACE satellite measurements, mapping of the North Pacific. We analyzed the seasonal and interannual variability of the level in the North Pacific according to the data obtained. Trends were calculated, the contribution of steric oscillation was estimated, which is slightly less than a half the variability of the level in this area. A map of linear trend coefficients was also constructed for steric oscillation. The calculations made allow us to distinguish the northwestern Pacific, where the values ​​of the steric oscillation of the level are the highest.
