Architecture as a Form of Dramatic Art: A Case Study of Yad Vashem Museum in Jerusalem

Abstract

Объект исследования - метафора "архитектурной драматургии". Предмет исследования - музейный комплекс Яд ва-Шем. В первой главе подробно изучается мемориальный комплекс Яд ва-Шем: его история, отдельные мемориальные объекты, процесс реконструкции комплекса, архитектурные проекты будущего мемориального пространства, символизм архитектуры Яд ва-Шем, а также его сионистский нарратив. Во второй главе рассматривается архитектура как драматургическое искусство через различные архитектурные метафоры и аналогии между архитектурой и драматургией. Также анализируется перевоплощение посетителя музея через переживание архитектуры. В заключении представлены выводы из исследований, осуществленных в основных главах работы.

The object of the research is architectural drama metaphor. The subject of the research is the Yad Vashem Holocaust Remembrance Center. The first chapter contains a detailed study of the Yad Vashem Holocaust Remembrance Center: its history, the individual memorial objects, the process of the museum complex reconstruction , architectural projects for the future memorial space, the symbolism of Yad Vashem architecture, as well as its Zionist narrative. The second chapter examines architecture as a form of dramatic arts through various architectural metaphors and the analogy between architecture and drama. The «change» of the Museum visitor after «experiencing» architecture is also considered. The conclusion contains the results of the studies carried out in the main chapters of the work.
