The country of origin impact: the study of the Russian Oil and Gas industry’ outward foreign direct investments and export activity

Abstract

Goal: Determine the relationships of the country of origin impact and the Russian Oil and Gas’ foreign direct investments and export activity. Tasks: - Identify the notion of the country of origin impact (what are the sources, effect, and measurement of the notion); - Analyse drivers of the Russian Oil&Gas’ foreign direct investments and export activity as well as the dynamics of the internationalization process of the Russian Oil and Gas companies; - Determine whether country of origin impact holds for the Russian foreign direct investments and exports in regard to Oil&Gas industry; - Analyse to what extent does the home country of origin manifest itself in outward FDI and export activity of the Russian Oil&Gas industry.

Main results: - The country of origin does impact the Russian Oil and Gas’ outward foreign direct investments - Bilateral trade and currency overvaluation positively impact Russian Oil&Gas OFDI; - Country risk negatively impact Oil&Gas OFDI from Russia.
