Euphemisms in Hebrew-language media: Coverage of the present stage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Данная работа посвящена изучению особенностей функционирования эвфемизмов в ивритоязычных СМИ на примере освещения современного этапа палестино-израильского конфликта. Актуальность данной работы определяется не прекращающимся интересом лингвистов к изучению особенностей языка СМИ в общем и функционирования эвфемизмов в массовой коммуникации, в частности. Тема функционирования эвфемизмов в современных ивритоязычных СМИ все еще остается мало изученной и практически не представлена в русскоязычных исследованиях. Первая глава данной работы посвящена изучению понятия эвфемизма, его видов и функций, а также способов образования эвфемизмов на материале отечественных и зарубежных исследований. В последнем разделе (1.4.) данной главы также приведены сведения, касающиеся эвфемизмов в ивритоязычной традиции. Во второй главе данной работы рассмотрены особенности функционирования эвфемизмов в ивритоязычных СМИ в контексте палестино-израильского конфликта на материале двух крупных израильских газет: «ידיעות אחרונות» (Последние новости) и «ישראל היום» (Израиль сегодня) за период с октября 2017 г. по март 2018 г., а также данных корпуса языка иврит за 2014- 2016гг. Для удобства анализа функционирования эвфемизмов было выделено пять тематических блоков: действия израильтян, действия палестинцев, конфликт и попытки урегулирования, территории, разделительный барьер. В ходе работы были изучены особенности употребления эвфемизмов, способы их образования и частота употребления в ивритоязычных СМИ.

This paper is devoted to studying euphemisms functioning in the Hebrew-language media on an example of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict current stage coverage. The relevance of this paper is determined by continuing linguists' interest in studying the features of the media language and the euphemisms functioning in mass communication in particular. The topic of the euphemisms functioning in modern Hebrew-language media is still poorly understood and practically not represented in Russian-language studies. The first chapter of this paper is devoted to studying the euphemism concept, its types and functions, and the ways euphemisms are created based on domestic and foreign research. The last paragraph of this chapter also contains information concerning euphemisms in the Hebrew-speaking tradition. In the second part of this paper, the features of the euphemisms functioning in the Hebrew-language media in the context of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict are investigated on the basis of two major Israeli newspapers: "ידיעות אחרונות" (Latest News) and "ישראל היום" (Israel today) for the period from October, 2017 to March, 2018, as well as the data of the Hebrew language corpus during 2014-2016. For the convenience of analyzing the euphemism functioning, five thematic clusters were selected: actions of Israelis, actions of Palestinians, conflict and settlement attempts, territories, and the separation barrier. During the research, the features of euphemisms usage, their formation, and frequency in the Hebrew language media were analyzed.
