Voluntary childlessness in modern Russian society: The gender aspect

Abstract

Выпускная квалификационная работа «Осознанная бездетность в современном российском обществе: гендерный аспект» посвящена анализу проблемы добровольного отказа от деторождения. Целью данной работы является анализ гендерных аспектов феномена осознанной бездетности. Актуальность темы исследования определена демографической ситуацией в современной России: падением рождаемости, сокращением числа браков и ростом количества разводов, депопуляцией. Работа состоит из введения, трёх глав, заключения, списка литературы и источников, приложений. Во введении раскрыта практическая и научная актуальность темы, определены объект и предмет исследования, поставлены цель и задачи исследования, сформулированы гипотезы, описана теоретико-методологическая основа исследования и структура работы. Глава 1 посвящена теоретическим и методологическим основаниям изучения осознанной бездетности. Проанализированы термины «семья», «бездетность», «феминизм», «гендер». Рассмотрены подходы к определению и изучению осознанной бездетности, среди которых теория гендерного равенства, теория постматериалистических ценностей, теория избегания рисков, теория рационального выбора, теория предпочтений. Изучено репродуктивное поведение и, в частности, место осознанной бездетности в концепциях феминизма. Глава 2 посвящена осознанной бездетности в контексте трансформации семьи и семейных отношений. Представлен вторичный анализ репродуктивного поведения за последнее столетие, определены тенденции трансформации современной семьи и репродуктивного поведения. Рассмотрены установки, мотивации и ценности бездетной семьи как результата изменений, затронувших институт семьи. Определены и изучены экономический, политический и социальный факторы осознанной бездетности. Глава 3 посвящена анализу и интерпретации данных, полученных в результате проведения авторского социологического эмпирического исследования. Проведены онлайн-интервью с участниками интернет-сообщества, посвящённому добровольному отказу от деторождения, в социальной сети «ВКонтакте» и анкетный опрос в сети интернет. Проанализирован интернет как среда коммуникации между осознанно бездетными индивидами, охарактеризованы ценности, установки и мотивации осознанно бездетных, проведён гендерный анализ причин осознанной бездетности, построены портреты типичных представителей осознанно бездетных индивидов, изучена специфика осознанной бездетности в России, сделаны выводы. В итоге, разработаны рекомендации по стимулированию рождаемости и преодолению добровольной бездетности. В конце работы представлен список литературы, состоящий из 54 источников, приложения в виде гайда интервью и анкеты опроса. Объём работы – 72 страницы.

Graduation thesis «Voluntary childlessness in the modern Russian society: gender aspect» is dedicated to the analysis of the problem that concerns refusal to have children. The objective of the thesis is to analyze gender aspect of the phenomenon of voluntary childlessness. The relevance of the research topic is determined by the demographic situation in the modern Russia: decline in fertility, reduction in the number of marriages and increase in the number of divorces, depopulation. Thesis consists of an introduction, three chapters, a conclusion, a list of literature and sources, and annex. The introduction consists of description of practical and scientific relevance of the research topic, definition of the object and subject of the research, as well as the objective, tasks and hypotheses, theoretical and methodological basis of the research and structure of the thesis. Chapter 1 is devoted to the theoretical and methodological foundations for studying voluntary childlessness. The terms "family", "childlessness", "feminism", "gender" are analyzed. Approaches to the definition and research of voluntary childlessness are reviewed, among which there are theory of gender equality, theory of post-materialism, theory of perceived risk, rational choice theory, preference theory. Reproductive behavior is studied, and in particular, the place of voluntary childlessness in the concepts of feminism. Chapter 2 is devoted to voluntary childlessness in the context of transformation of family and family relations. A secondary analysis of reproductive behavior over the last century is presented, and trends in transformation of modern family and reproductive behavior are identified. In addition, attitudes, motivations and values of childless family are investigated. Economic, political and social factors of voluntary childlessness are determined and studied. Chapter 3 is devoted to the analysis and interpretation of data obtained as a result of the author's sociological empirical research. An online interview with members of the Internet community which is dedicated to refusal to have children in the social network "VKontakte, and an online questionnaire were conducted. The Internet is analyzed as an environment of communication between voluntary childless (or childfree) individuals. Values, attitudes and motivations of voluntary childless people are characterized, gender analysis of the causes of voluntary childlessness is presented, portraits of typical representatives of voluntary childless individuals are constructed, the specificity of voluntary childlessness in Russia is described, conclusions are drawn. As a result, recommendations have been developed for stimulating childbirth among Russian people and overcoming voluntary childlessness. At the end of the thesis, there is a list of literature consisting of 54 sources, an annex consisting of an interview guide and a questionnaire is presented. The size of the thesis is 72 pages.
