The Flood Myth in Chinese, Indian and Biblical Traditions

Abstract

Данная ВКР посвящена мифам о Великом Потопе и их базовым элементам в китайской, индийской и библейской традициях. Описаны сходства и различия этих сюжетов, их возможное происхождение и распространение в Центральной и Восточной Евразии. Выявлены особенности базовых элементов мифологических сюжетов о Потопе и их связь с социально-бытовыми особенностями народов, которые их создали. Подробнее рассматриваются китайская традиция, так как она включает в себя большое разнообразие сюжетов о Потопе в сравнении с ближневосточными и индийскими культурами. Также работа содержит историографический очерк изучения китайских мифов о Потопе. Предмет исследования – базовые элементы мифов о Потопе в выбранных традициях (перерождение мира, роль главного героя в этом процессе, используемые средства спасения). Цель данной работы – выявить сходства и различия между базовыми элементами мифов о Потопе в китайской, индийской и библейской традициях. Работа состоит из введения, трёх глав и заключения. В первой главе рассматриваются гипотезы происхождения сюжетов о Потопе на территории Евразии, а также библейская и индийская традиции, которые предположительно произошли из одного региона (Ближний Восток). Во второй главе анализируется многообразие китайских мифов о Потопе, их возможное происхождение, особенности, связь с концепцией правления, а также история изучения вопроса. Третья глава содержит анализ базовых элементов мифов о Потопе, которые содержатся во всех трёх традициях, и их связь с культурными особенностями народов, в которых они создавались.

This thesis is dedicated to the myths of the Great Flood and their basic elements in the Chinese, Indian and Biblical traditions. Similarities and differences of these plots, their possible origin and distribution in Central and Eastern Eurasia are described. The features of the basic elements of the mythological stories about the Flood and their connection with the social and everyday peculiarities of the peoples who created them have been revealed. The Chinese tradition is considered in more detail, since it includes a wide variety of stories about the Flood in comparison with Middle Eastern and Indian cultures. Moreover, the thesis contains a historiographical essay on the study of Chinese myths about the Flood. The subject of the study is the basic elements of the myths about the Flood in the chosen traditions (the degeneration of the world, the role of the protagonist in this process, the means of rescue used). The purpose of this paper is to identify the similarities and differences between the basic elements of the myths about the Flood in Chinese, Indian and Biblical traditions. The thesis consists of an introduction, three chapters and a conclusion. The first chapter examines the hypotheses of the origins of the Flood in Eurasia, as well as the biblical and Indian traditions that supposedly originated from one region (the Middle East). The second chapter analyzes the diversity of Chinese myths about the Flood, their possible origin, peculiarities, connection with the concept of government, as well as the history of the study of the issue. The third chapter contains an analysis of the basic elements of the myths about the Flood, which are contained in all three traditions, and their relationship to the cultural characteristics of the peoples in which they were created.
