Alexander Pushkin and Greece

Abstract

Магистерская диссертация посвящена проблемам отражения античной и новой греческой культуры и истории в творчестве Пушкина и восприятию пушкинской поэзии в Греции. Тема раскрывается в нескольких аспектах. Во-первых, в работе рассматривается эволюция отношения Пушкина к древнегреческой поэзии, выразившаяся в последовательном движении от внешнего использования античной номенклатуры в рамках поэтического стиля эпохи, через создание антологических миниатюр «во вкусе древних» к переводам подлинных образцов древнегреческой лирики. Во-вторых, характеризуется отношение поэта к событиям в современной ему Греции – Греческой революции, вызвавшей в России (и, в частности, у Пушкина) всплеск филэллинистических настроений. Анализируются произведения Пушкина, отразившие его интерес к греческой античности и тематически связанные с Греческой революцией; даётся обзор греческой критической литературы о Пушкине, перечень греческих переводов пушкинских произведений и краткий исторический очерк восприятия пушкинского наследия в Греции.

The aim of this master thesis is to define the reflexion of ancient and new Greek culture and history in Pushkin's work and the reception of Pushkin's poetry in Greece. The topic includes several aspects. First of all, the evolution of Pushkin's attitude towards the ancient Greek poetry is considered and the way it was expressed in a consistent movement from the external use of the ancient nomenclature within the poetic style of the era. This evolution was initiated by creating anthological miniatures "in the taste of the ancients" and was followed by translating authentic samples of ancient Greek lyric poetry. Second of all, the attitude of the poet towards the events of the Greek War of Independence is issued. This war caused a splash of philhellenic feelings in Russia generally and, particularly in Pushkin. In addition, Pushkin’s poems that reflect his interest in Greek antiquity and are thematically associated with the Greek War of Independence are analysed in this thesis. Third of all, an overview of the Greek literary criticism on Pushkin is provided, as well as a list of Greek translations of Pushkin's works, and a brief historical account of the reception of Pushkin's heritage in Greece.
