Individual Letter Writing in the System of Russian Culture of the Late 18th – First Half of the 19th Century: 1786 – 1864

Abstract

Выпускная квалификационная работа посвящена изучению индивидуального письма как важного компонента русской культуры XVIII-XIX вв. Исследовательница начинает с рассказа об историографии по данному вопросу. Во второй главе автор последовательно рассматривает разные варианты употребления письма в обществе. Основными источниками являются упоминания о письме и подписи в художественной литературе, изображения пишущих и атрибутов письма в живописи и графике. Третья глава представляет собой анализ русских рукописных альбомов, хранящихся в Российской национальной библиотеке и Институте русской литературы (РАН). В заключении автор приводит основные выводы своего исследования и указывает возможные причины, которые могли повлиять на роль индивидуального письма в русской культуре.

The Qualification Research Paper is devoted to the study of individual writing as an important component of Russian culture of the 18th-19th centuries. The researcher starts by telling about the historiography of this issue. In the second chapter the author subsequently considers various options for the use of the writing in society. The main sources are the mentions of the writing and signature in fiction, images of the writers and attributes of writing in painting and graphics. The third chapter is an analysis of Russian manuscript albums kept in the Russian National Library and the Institute of Russian Literature (Russian Academy of Sciences). In conclusion the author gives the main results of this study and points out the possible reasons that could affect the role of individual writing in Russian culture.
