The Olympic Movement in the countries of South and North America: Challenges and prospects

Abstract

Выпускная квалификационная работа представляет собой исследование, посвященное выявлению особенностей участия стран Южной и Северной Америки в Олимпийском движении в спортивном, культурно-гуманитарном, социальном и политическом аспектах. В соответствии с поставленными задачами в ходе исследования была проанализирована эволюция участия стран в Олимпийских играх, рассмотрен вклад выдающихся олимпийских спортсменов, изучены особенности организации Олимпийских игр, проведенные на территории стран Северной и Южной Америки, охарактеризована деятельность МОК в данном регионе, направленная на решение экономических и социокультурных проблем, а также были выявлены проблемы участия стран в Олимпийском движении и спрогнозированы возможные перспективы развития данного явления в этих странах. В результате проведенного исследования автором были сделаны следующие выводы: Олимпийское движение представляет собой важное общественное явление для стран Южной и Северной Америки, которое продолжает интенсивно развиваться; количество участвующих стран возрастает с каждым годом, а их участие становится стабильным; именно из стран Северной Америки самые титулованные олимпийские чемпионы, которые являются олицетворением спорта и идей олимпизма; проведение большого количества Олимпийских игр в данном регионе носило как положительные, так и отрицательные стороны; разнохарактерная деятельность МОК помогает решать внутренние проблемы стран и интенсивнее вовлекать их в Олимпийское движение; расширение и усиление Олимпийского движения в странах обусловлено принятием долгосрочных стратегий и проектов, направленных на развитие и укрепление спорта в данных странах.

This graduation qualifying work is a study dedicated to identifying features of participation of the countries of South and North America in the Olympic movement in sports, cultural, humanitarian, social and political aspects. In accordance with the set of objectives, the study analyzed the evolution of country’s participation in the Olympic games, reviewed the contribution of distinguished Olympic athletes, studied the features of the Olympic games held in the countries of the Americas, characterized the activities of the IOC in this region, aimed at addressing economic and socio-cultural problems, as well as the problems of participation of countries in the Olympic movement and the possible prospects for the development of this process in this countries were forecast. On the basis of objectives the following conclusions were reached: The Olympic movement is an important social phenomenon for the countries of South and North America, which continues to develop intensively; The number of participating countries increases every year, and their participation becomes stable; The countries of North America have the most titled Olympic champions who are the embodiment of sport and the ideas of Olympism; Holding a large number of Olympic games in this region bore both positive and negative sides; IOC's varied activities help to solve the internal problems of the countries and involve them more intensively in the Olympic movement; The expansion and strengthening of the Olympic movement in the countries is conditioned by the adoption of long-term strategies and projects aimed at developing and strengthening sports in these countries.
