Russia in the Eurasian space: The increasing international influence of Russia as a BRICS member

Abstract

В последние годы все больше набирает популярность идея о внешнеполитическом повороте России на Восток. Соотношение азиатского и европейского вектора внешней политики России является давним полем для исследований научных деятелей, которые рассматривают развитие этого направления через призму деятельности различных международных форматов. Одним из инструментов, с помощью которых Россия осуществляет наращивание своего международного влияния в регионе Евразии, является БРИКС – наиболее глобальный механизм консолидации усилий стран по созданию новой структуры международных отношений. В последние годы группы БРИКС заметно укрепила механизмы взаимного сотрудничества и ощутимо повысила свое международное влияние. Цель данной работы – выявить факторы группы БРИКС в качестве одного из инструментов усиления влияния России на евразийском пространстве в рамках «поворота на Восток» в российской внешней политике. В процессе исследования были проанализированы исторические этапы развития евразийского вектора, охарактеризована роль БРИКС в российской внешнеполитической доктрине в условиях ограничения сотрудничества с Западом, а также изучены проблемы и перспективы развития формата. Для проведения комплексного анализа поворота России на азиатское направление внешней политики было изучено множество официальных документов, договоров, деклараций, а также монографий и статей известных ученых по данной проблеме.

Recently the idea of Russia's foreign policy turn to the East has been gaining popularity. The correlation of the Asian and European vector of Russia's foreign policy is an old field for research of scientists who consider the development of this direction through the prism of the activities of various international formats. One of the tools with which Russia is building up its international influence in the Eurasian region is BRICS - the most global mechanism for consolidating the efforts of countries to create a new structure of international relations. In recent years the BRICS has significantly strengthened the mechanisms of mutual cooperation and has visibly increased its international influence. The purpose of this work is to identify the factors of the BRICS group as one of the tools for strengthening Russia's influence on the Eurasian space within the framework of the "turn to the East" in Russian foreign policy. Within the framework of this research the historical stages of the development of the Eurasian vector were analyzed, the role of BRICS in the Russian foreign policy doctrine was characterized in the context of restricting cooperation with the West, and also the problems and prospects for the format development were studied. To conduct a comprehensive analysis of Russia's turn to the Asian direction of foreign policy many official documents, treaties, declarations, monographs and articles of well-known scientists on this issue were studied.
