The image of the Russian Federation in the mass media of Spain and Great Britain: A comparative analysis

Abstract

Данная выпускная квалификационная работа посвящена проблематике формирования имиджа Российской Федерации в СМИ Великобритании и Испании. Целью работы являлась характеристика сложившегося внешнеполитического образа Российской Федерации в СМИ Испании и Великобритании. Ключевое значение при этом имело выявление схожих черт и отличий во внешнеполитическом образе России посредством анализа конкретных тем, освещенных в СМИ: внешняя и внутренняя политика, образ президента, отношения России со странами на постсоветском пространстве. В результате проведенного исследования были сделаны следующие выводы. Формирование внешнеполитического имиджа РФ в СМИ Великобритании и Испании сильно зависит от политических взглядов издательств. Несмотря на то, что в целом испанские СМИ более лояльны к Российской Федерации, чем британские, негативное настроение является общей тенденцией, что обуславливается единым геополитическим пространством. Основная часть статей обеих стран посвящена российскому президенту Владимиру Путину, деятельность которого полностью отождествляется с внешней и внутренней политикой государства.

This final qualification work is devoted to the problem of the formation of the image of the Russian Federation in the mass media of Great Britain and Spain. The aim of the work was to identify the foreign political image of the Russian Federation in the mass media of Spain and Great Britain. The main attention has been paid to the identification of the common features and differences in the foreign political image of Russia through the analysis of specific topics covered in the media: foreign and internal policy, the image of the president, relations between Russia and countries of the post-Soviet space. As a result of the research, the following conclusions were made. The formation of the foreign political image of Russia in the mass media of Great Britain and Spain strongly depends on the political views of the publishers. Despite the fact that, in general, the Spanish mass media is more loyal to the Russian Federation than the British one, the negative mood is a general trend, which is conditioned by a single geopolitical space. The majority of the articles in these two countries was devoted to issues related to Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose actions are completely identified with the foreign and internal policy of the state.
