Abstract
The work is devoted to the analysis of the process of borrowing Vietnamisms-culinary names
and the peculiarities of their functioning. The object of the research is the Vietnamese loanwords-
culinaronyms in the language of the Russian media, the subject of the research is the
graphic, morphological and semantic development of Vietnamese culinary names in the
Russian-speaking media environment in the process of their functioning. The purpose of the
study is to identify and describe the features of the development and use of loanwords-culinary
names in the Russian-language media. The author used the descriptive method, content
analysis, and elements of the comparative method. An analysis of the media environment has
shown that Vietnamese cuisine is actively spreading in Russia. As a result, the Russian language
began to actively borrow the names of Vietnamese dishes. The author has established that, in
contrast to borrowings from the Vietnamese language of previous years, at present there is an
active phonetic, morphological and semantic mastering of words of this lexical group. The
graphic, morphological and semantic development of the culinaronym nem is analyzed in
detail. The importance of using the category of culinary code when entering the Vietnamese
loanword into the Russian language is established. Much attention is paid to understanding
how Vietnamese culinaronyms are included in the Russian morphological system in terms of
the category of gender and case. The word-culinaronym pho (the name of the soup) is studied
as the dominant of the analyzed group of borrowings. It has been established that on the basis
of this word a word-forming nest is formed. In morphological terms, the word is mastered as
a proper noun, a common noun, an adjective. The results of the analysis of the functioning of
the word pho show that the word, which at the beginning of its entry into the Russian language
had the status of a culinaronym, now has the status of one of the most important slots of the
concept “Vietnam”
