Abstract
China is currently Australia's largest trading partner and market for manufactured goods. The benefit for Australia in cooperation with the PRC primarily lies in investment. In 2020, they were estimated at $ 61.31 billion, placing China as Australia's 9th foreign investor. However, due to Australia's deep involvement in the US sphere of influence and the dependence of Australia's economy and development on US financial flows, Australia became an unwitting participant in the unfolding trade war between the PRC and the United States. For Australia, this confrontation was a hard test, which ultimately led to a deterioration of relations with the PRC. All these and not only disagreements, as well as the tightening of Australian policy on its investment market, led to the fact that on May 6, 2021, the State Development and Reform Committee of the PRC decided to suspend indefinitely all activities within the framework of the Sino-Australian Strategic Economic Dialogue. However, the Chinese side still hopes for a speedy resolution of the conflict with the Australian government in the near future. All this suggests that the close trade relationship between Australia and China has become not only a unifying factor but also the main instrument of pressure between the two countries. This work is devoted to the Sino-Australian cooperation in the investment sphere: the existing problems and the prospects for the implementation of the further partnership.
