Specifics of Born globals’ development in Russia: evidence from IT industry

Abstract

This master thesis is a study on the growth of Born global companies from the IT sector in Russia. The aim of the study was to identify the peculiarities of the development of these companies. As a research method the case study method was chosen. The data was collected through interviews with the top management of participating companies. In addition, other methods of analysis were used, such as analysis of secondary sources of information: the recent publications on the companies, the news from the official websites, corporate reports, records of conferences, etc. The study identified 10 characteristics of a typical foreign global entrepreneurial company, and on the basis of its testing during the interviews – the peculiarities of the development of domestic IT Born globals. In addition, other specifics were identified among Russian IT Born globals that were not previously published in the scientific community. On the basis of the revealed peculiarities in Russian companies there were formed managerial implications for senior managers and founders of new global ventures, as well as companies running their business for a long time, but willing to go global in the nearest future. The recommendations were formed to support top management of Russian IT companies during the rapid growth and internationalization. These tips also aim to reduce the risks associated with the processes of entering foreign markets.
