The translation of historical culture-specific items in the "Baroque Cycle" by Neal Stephenson

Abstract

Работа посвящена изучению исторических реалий как объекта перевода. Цель исследования заключается в выявлении основных способов перевода исторических реалий на материале романов «Барочного цикла» Нила Стивенсона. В результате анализа отобранных реалий были представлены характерные приемы их передачи на русском языке (транскрипция и транслитерация, создание нового слова, контекстуальный перевод, замена реалии и др.) с указанием частоты их использования.The paper studies historical culture-specific items as an object of translation. The purpose of the study is to identify the main translation techniques for historical culture-specific items based on the examples of such items in the “Baroque Cycle” by Neal Stephenson. After the analysis of the selected culture-specific items, their characteristic translation techniques (such as: transcription and transliteration, creation of a new word, contextual translation, substitution of the culture-specific item, etc.) were presented with an indication of the frequency of their use.
