The Origin of the Cross-Dome System in the Eastern Christian Church Architecture

Abstract

Данная работа посвящена происхождению крестово-купольной системы в архитектуре восточно-христианского храма. Целью работы является попытка проследить и описать ключевые этапы развития и распространения типа вписанного креста на раннем этапе византийской крестово-купольной архитектуры, то есть до IX-X вв. Собраны и проанализированы основные научные работы по Византийской архитектуре в целом, и посвящённые крестово-купольным храмам, в частности. Собраны и объединены основные архитектурные памятники на территориях Византийской империи и соседних с ней, позволяющие создать наиболее полною картину и проследить их генезис, трансформацию и влияния. Осуществлена попытка воссоздать хронологический процесс возникновения и распространения архитектурного типа вписанного креста на территории Византийской империи.This work is devoted to the origin of the Cross-Dome System in the Eastern Christian Church Architecture. The aim of the work is an attempt to trace and describe the key stages of the development and spread of the type of inscribed cross at the early stage of Byzantine cross-domed architecture, that is, before the IX-X centuries. The main scientific works on Byzantine architecture in general, and on cross-domed temples in particular, are collected and analyzed. The main architectural monuments in the territories of the Byzantine Empire and neighboring ones are collected and combined, allowing to create the most complete picture and trace their genesis, transformation and influence. An attempt has been made to recreate the chronological process of the emergence and spread of the architectural type of the inscribed cross on the territory of the Byzantine Empire.
