This article represents a review of different essays done by British diplomats and scholars, where the Limbu people of Tibeto-Mongolian origin are mentioned. The Limbus inhabit mainly territories of Eastern Nepal. Due to the particular nature of their interaction with the ruling Shah dynasty of Nepal, the Limbus came into sight of the first Europeans who visited the country. Works presented in this article help to obtain an overview of the settlement areas, some specific features of the social order, interaction with other Nepalese ethnicities, religious beliefs and ritual practices of the Limbus in the 19th century.
