The problem of physiological adaptations in connection with the forms of variability in free living Protozoa (some results and perspectives of research)

Abstract

Evidence obtained by the author and his colleagues in their longtern studies on the problem of physiological temperature adaptations in Ciliates and some other free living Protozoa, are reviewed. Principal experimental facts on changes of heat- and cold-resistance depending on environmental temperature and. some other non-temperature factors, are presented. Conceivable genetical mechanisms controlling the heat-resistance level, are discussed, the problem of epigenomic variation being considered in this connection. Long-lasting modifications in Protozoa, the proposed genetic mechanisms of this form of variation and its possible adaptive singnificdnce are discussed.

В статье дается обзор результатов многолетних исследований автора и его сотрудников по проблеме физиологических температурных адаптации у инфузорий и некоторых других свободноживущих простейших. Излагается основной экспериментальный материал по изменению тепло- и хладоустойчивости в зависимости от температурного режима среды и воздействия ряда других, не температурных факторов. Обсуждается вопрос о возможных генетических механизмах, определяющих уровень теплоустойчивости, и в этой связи рассматривается проблема эпигеномной изменчив ост и. Обсуждается вопрос о длительных модификациях простейших, о предполагаемых генетических механизмах этой формы изменчивости и ее возможном адаптивном значении.
