The Civil War and the Reconstruction of the South in the 20th century US literature as illustrated by the novels of Margaret Mitchell and Howard Fast

Выпускная квалификационная работа на тему «Гражданская война и Реконструкция Юга в литературе США XX века (по романам Маргарет Митчелл и Говарда Фаста)» состоит из трех глав, введения, заключения и списка источников и литературы. Объектом данной работы являются произведения американской художественной литературы второй четверти XX века («Унесенные ветром» М. Митчелл и «Дорога свободы» Г. Фаста), посвященные историческим событиям 1861-1877 годов. Задачи работы: произвести анализ жизни, творчества Маргарет Митчелл и Говарда Фаста; определить степень непримиримости северной и южной точек зрения в пределах художественных пространств избранных произведений; проследить судьбу романов и их воздействие на публику, используя при этом исследования отечественных историков и литераторов, а также издания зарубежных авторов. В интересующем нас сравнительном плане творчество Митчелл и Фаста не рассматривалось. Обоим писателям посвящена не слишком обширная, но остро дискуссионная литература. Обзор ее в виде отдельных экскурсов мы поместили в соответствующих разделах в главах. Тема работы актуальна и может представлять интерес для историков и словесников, так как в ней происходит историко-культурный диалог российского и американского обществ. В работе дано жизнеописание и творческий путь М. Митчелл и Г.Фаста, установлены мотивы обращения к событиям 1861-1877 годов в истории США, а также произведен сравнительный анализ отражения ключевых явлений рассматриваемого периода в романах «Унесенные ветром» (1936) и «Дорога свободы» (1944)

Graduation qualifying work on the theme «The Civil War and the Reconstruction of the South in the XXth century USA literature based on the novels by Margaret Mitchell and Howard Fast» consists of three chapters, introduction, conclusion, list of sources and literature. The objects of this study are works of American fiction of the second quarter of the 20th century («Gone with the Wind» by M. Mitchell and «Freedom Road» by H. Fast), dedicated to the historical events of 1861-1877. The tasks of work: to analyze the life, work of Margaret Mitchell and Howard Fast; determine the degree of irreconcilability of the northern and southern points of view within the artistic spaces of selected works; to trace the fate of the novels and their impact on the public, using at the same time the research of domestic historians and writers, as well as the publication of foreign authors. In a comparative plan of interest to us, the novels of Mitchell and Fast were not considered. All existing literature about these authors is not extensive, but is acutely debatable. Review it in the form of individual excursions we placed in the relevant sections of the chapter. The theme of the work is relevant and may be of interest to historians and philologists, because it is a historical and cultural dialogue between Russian and American societies. The work gave an overview of the life and creative path of M. Mitchell and H. Fast, also we consider the motives of the writers' appeal to the period 1861-1877 in the history of the United States and made a comparative analysis of the reflection of the most important events in their novels.
