The role of mass media in the regulation of ethnopolitical conflicts in the post-Soviet space: The case of Ukraine

Abstract

Аннотация Фортунова Мария Геннадиевна Тема: Роль средств массовой информации в урегулировании этнополитических конфликтов на постсоветском пространстве (на примере Украины) В рамках данной выпускной работы проанализирована роль средств массовой информации в урегулировании этнополитических конфликтов. В работе освещены теоретические основы изучения этнополитических конфликтов, их специфики, предпосылок и типологии, а также приведено рассмотрение проблемы с точки зрения освещения этнополитических конфликтов в СМИ. Основываясь на обширном перечне литературных источников, а так же на проведенном контент-анализе российских и украинских средств массовой информации, были определены основные тенденции освещения в СМИ конфликта между Россией и Украиной и разработаны некоторые рекомендации по повышению эффективности роли СМИ в урегулировании конфликтов.

Annotation Fortunova Maria Gennadievna Theme: The role of mass media in the regulation of ethnopolitical conflicts in the post-Soviet space (the case of Ukraine) In the frame of this final work the role of the mass media in the settlement of ethnopolitical conflicts is analyzed. This work covers the theoretical bases of studying ethnopolitical conflicts, their specifics, prerequisites and typology, as well as the consideration of the problem from the point of view of covering ethnopolitical conflicts in the media. Based on the extensive list of literature sources and on the content analysis of Russian and Ukrainian media, the main trends in media coverage of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine were identified and some recommendations to improve the effectiveness of the role of the media in conflict resolution were developed.
