Capital structure and corporate governance: a study of Russian companies with foreign ownership

Abstract

Goal of the research: to explore how various factors of corporate governance influence capital structure decisions of Russian public companies with foreign ownership. Main tasks of the research: to study existing literature on the relationship of corporate governance and capital structure; to create an empirical model for the research; to build and describe a sample for analysis; to analyze the sample with pooled, fixed effects and random effects regression models; to interpret results and conclude on the observed relationship between corporate governance variables and firm leverage. Main results: existing literature on capital structure theories and the relationship between corporate governance variables and leverage was studied; empirical model for the research was formed; data on 52 Russian companies with foreign ownership for 2008-2012 was collected; the sample was analyzed with regression analysis; result of regression analysis were interpreted and discussed.

Цель работы: исследование влияния факторов корпоративного управления на структуру капитала российских компаний. Задачи: изучить существующие исследования влияния факторов корпоративного управления на структуру капитала; сформировать эмпирическую модель исследования; составить выборку для регрессионного анализа; провести регрессионный анализ выборки и интерпретировать результаты. Результаты: проанализирована литература по теориям структуры капитала и влиянию факторов корпоративного управления на структуру капитала; сформирована эмпирическая модель исследования; составлена и проанализирована выборка из 52 российских компаний с иностранным участием за 2008-2012 гг.; проведен регрессионный анализ выборки и интерпретированы результаты.
