Wandering songs in the early Japanese poetry (anthology “Hachidaisho”, 1235)

Abstract

The subject discussed in this article is wandering songs. Most of songs were written during travels and being on duty far from home locations. Particular importance is attached to the departure from the capital. It is a reason to feel admired and sad because of need to leave the capital and go to serve in the province. Lyric means of expression were still insufficiently developed at that time. That is why geographic place names become one of the most powerful tools to enrich artistic value of composition. Places visited by the poet are described in his songs or only mentioned, become milestones of his life and destiny. As a source of our study was chosen anthology «Hachidaisho». It was composed by poet Fujiwara Teika. This anthology include the song selected from written earlier anthology. Such as «Manyoshu», «Shinkokinwakashu» and others. We tried to analyze combination of the strophe which were included to other anthology. We analyzed themes, motives, images and reviewed artistic means. Refs 8.
