Development of a database modelling tool

Abstract

Дипломная работа посвящена созданию системы графического проектирования баз данных для обучающихся. Разработка велась в течение 2-х лет на базе платформы QReal. Дипломная работа состоит из следующих разделов: введение, 5 глав, заключение, список литературы, приложение.

Введение описывает предпосылки создания системы: анализ возможностей и расширение функциональности платформы QReal, наличие проблем у существующих инструментов проектирования БД с точки зрения процесса обучения. Глава 1 содержит определение используемой терминологии, обзор 12 инструментов проектирования БД, связанные работы на кафедре системного программирования и список тем по базам данных, изучаемых в рамках курса CS430 "Database Systems". Глава 2 описывает требования к системе. Глава 3 посвящена этапам реализации инструмента по требованиям, представленным в главе 2. Глава 4 описывает приближение прототипа по качеству к продукту: разработку пользовательской документации, создание локализаций для русского и английского языков, сборку инсталлятора. Глава 5 посвящена апробации платформы на целевой группе из 10 человек и доработке инструмента по результатам апробации. Заключение содержит список основных результатов работы над проектом: разработаны требования, реализована функциональность, произведена апробация приложения. Список литературы содержит различные источники, включая книги по базам данных, стандарты и электронные ресурсы. Приложение предоставляет возможность посмотреть на задания, предлагаемые пользователям на апробации, а также на варианты их выполнения.

Bachelor's thesis is devoted to the development of a database modelling tool for students. The development based on the platform QReal lasted for 2 years. The thesis includes the following sections: introduction, 5 chapters, conclusion, references, appendix.

Introduction describes the prerequisites for the system creation: facilities analysis and feature enhancements of QReal, problems in the existing database modelling tools from the perspective of the learning process. Chapter 1 contains a definition of the terminology used, a review of 12 database modelling tools, related works on SE department and a list of topics on databases that are studied in the course CS430 "Database Systems". Chapter 2 describes the requirements for the tool. Chapter 3 is devoted to the stages of implementation that meets the requirements set out in Chapter 2. Chapter 4 describes the approximation of the prototype to the quality of the product: development of the user documentation, creating of the localizations for Russian and English languages, assembly of the installer. Chapter 5 is devoted to the testing of the tool by the target group of 10 people and tool revision after aprobation. Conclusion contains a list of the main results of the project: developed requirements, implemented functionality, tested the application. References contains a variety of sources, including books about databases, standards, and electronic resources. Appendix provides the ability to look at the task offered to the users during the testing process and at the options of task execution.
