The father-son relationships in connection with an experience of paternity in men

Abstract

Целью данного исследования было выявление специфики первого опыта отцовства в связи с отношениями мужчины с собственным отцом или иной значимой мужской фигурой в детстве. В исследовании приняли участие 50 мужчин: они являлись отцами впервые, а возраст их ребёнка не превышал 3 лет. Выборка была разделена на две группы по критерию элиминирования эмоций со стороны отца в детстве. В исследовании применялись методики, направленные на изучение образа собственного отца, а также взаимоотношений с ним в детстве, и опросники, изучающие эмоциональные взаимоотношения молодого отца с ребёнком, и отношение к себе в отцовской роли. Статистическая обработка данных проводилась с помощью критерия U Манна-Уитни и корреляционного анализа. Полученные данные подтвердили гипотезу о существовании взаимосвязи между отношениями мужчины с отцом или иной значимой мужской фигурой в детстве и первым опытом отцовства. Результаты показали, что взаимоотношения с отцом в детстве, и особенно их эмоциональная составляющая, а также образ собственного отца связаны с принятием и восприятием себя в роли отца, описанием образа идеального отца, а также с особенностями взаимодействия молодого отца с ребёнком до 3 лет. Было показано, что элиминирование эмоций со стороны отца в детстве связано со способностью молодого отца к пониманию состояния ребёнка и его причин, а также с умением оказывать эмоциональную поддержку.

The purpose of this study was to identify the specifics of the first experience of fatherhood in a connection with a man's relationship with his own father or another significant male figure in childhood. The study involved 50 men: they were fathers for the first time, and their child's age did not exceed 3 years. The sample was divided into two groups according to the criterion of elimination of child’s emotions by the father in childhood. The study used techniques aimed to studying the image of one's own father, as well as the relationship with him in childhood, and questionnaires studying the emotional relationship of a young father with a child, and the attitude towards himself in a paternal role. A statistical data processing was carried out using the Mann–Whitney U test and a correlation analysis. The data obtained confirmed the hypothesis of the existence of a relationship between a man's relationship with his father or another significant male figure in childhood and the first experience of fatherhood. The results shown that the relationship with the father in childhood, and especially their emotional component, as well as the image of one's own father, are associated with acceptance and perception for oneself in the role of a father, a description of the image of an ideal father, and with the characteristics of the interaction of a young father with a child up to 3 years old. It has been shown that the elimination of a child’s emotions by the father in the childhood is associated with the ability of the young father to understand the condition of the child and its causes, as well as the ability to provide emotional support.
