Automatic tuning of DBMS configuration parameters

Abstract

Система управления базами данных (СУБД) является частью многих приложений. Конфигурация СУБД -- один из важнейших аспектов, влияющих на производительность СУБД и, как следствие, приложения в целом. Задача подбора оптимальной конфигурации усложняется тем, что различные СУБД имеют различные конфигурационные параметры. Также, для конфигурации необходимо обладать пониманием взаимосвязи параметров между собой и опытом работы с определённой СУБД. Чтобы преодолеть эти трудности, автор работы представляет инструмент автоматического подбора конфигурационных параметров СУБД. Модульная архитектура инструмента позволяет абстрагироваться от СУБД, параметров конфигурации, тестовой нагрузки.

A database management system (DBMS) is part of many software products. The DBMS configuration is one of the most essential aspects that affect the performance of the DBMS and, as a result, the application as a whole. The task of selecting an optimal configuration is complicated due to the fact that different DBMSs have different configuration parameters and there is no one optimal configuration fitting in every environment. Also, it is necessary to have an understanding of the relationship between the configuration parameters and working experience with a certain DBMS. To overcome this issue, the automatic tool for selecting DBMS configuration parameters is presented. The modular architecture of the tool allows to run it for the different DBMSs, configuration parameters, and workloads.
