Algorithms for special cases of the MaxSAT problem

Abstract

Метод расщепления -- один из наиболее изученных подходов для решения различных NP-трудных задач. Основная идея состоит в разделении задачи на несколько более простых подзадач, таких что по решениям для них можно за полиномиальное время восстановить решение для исходной задачи. В данной работе представляется программа, которая автоматически генерирует алгоритм расщепления с доказательством верхней оценки на время работы, подбирая при этом подходящие упрощения и оптимальные расщепления. В качестве примера приводится алгоритм для задачи (n,3)-MaxSAT (MaxSAT с ограничением, что каждая переменная входит в формулу не более трёх раз) со временем работы O(1.175^n), что улучшает предыдущую известную оценку O(1.191^n) от Беловой и Близнеца. Также приводится метод верификации правил расщепления с помощью SMT-солвера.

The splitting method is one of the most well-studied approaches for solving various NP-hard problems. The main idea of this method is to split an input instance of a problem into several simpler instances, such that when the solution for each of them is found, one can construct the solution for the initial instance in polynomial time. In this work, we present the program that automatically generates a splitting algorithm with a proof of the upper bound for the running time. Suitable reductions and splits are chosen automatically. As an example, the algorithm is presented for the (n,3)-MaxSAT problem (MaxSAT with the constraint that in the input formula each variable appears at most three times) with worst running time O(1.175^n), which improves the previously known bound O(1.191^n) from Belova and Bliznets. The method for verifying splitting rules using the SMT solver is also presented.
