«I will not change my hate to the bolsheviks»: Alexey von Lampe as mirror of white Russian military emigration

Abstract

This article examines the fate of Russian Major-General A.A. von Lampe. General’s name is known not only to the military historians, but also to the experts on literature of the Russians Abroad. After taking part in the First World and Russian Civil wars, A von Lampe found himself in exile and has gone from military agent to the Chairman of the ROVS while remaining strong anticommunist. During the Second World War, A.A. von Lampe welcomed the German attack on the Soviet Union, and later joined the movement of General A.A. Vlasov, hoping that emigration will be widely involved in the war against communism. However, von Lampe’s initiatives were rejected by both the Germans and Vlasov. Refs 24.
