The history of the formation of Tantric Buddhism in China

Abstract

В диссертационном исследовании «История становления тантрического буддизма в Китае» рассматриваются истоки эзотерического буддизма, история его проникновения на территорию Китая и анализируются процессы его рецепции китайским социумом. В работе выделяются и подробно исследуются стадии становления китайского тантрического буддизма от его ранних форм до его институционализации в форме китайской тантрической школы чжэньянь. В исследовании представлена разработанная автором периодизация истории тантрического буддизма в Китае, охватывающая период со II в. н.э. (этап проникновения тантрического буддизма) по IX в. н.э. (период упадка тантрического буддизма в Китае).

MA thesis “The History of Formation of Tantric Buddhism in China” provides an insight into the origins of esoteric Buddhism and the history of its penetration into the territory of China and analyses the process of its reception by the Chinese society. The study emphasizes and scrutinizes two stages of the formation of Chinese tantric Buddhism from its early forms to its institutionalization in the form of Chinese tantric school Zhenyan. The author of the thesis provides her periodisation of the history of tantric Buddhism in China, covering the period from the II century A.D. (the penetration of tantric Buddhism into China) to the IX century A.D. (the period of its decline in China).
