Unrepresented peoples communities in the USA in the modern period: Assimilation and adaptation

Abstract

В выпускной квалификационной бакалаврской работе исследуется проблема сообществ непредставленных народов в Соединённых Штатах Америки на современном этапе. Исследуемыми этническими группами в данной работе выступают диаспоры курдов, карпатских русинов и турок-месхетинцев в США. Особое внимание в работе уделяется процессам ассимиляции и адаптации, связанным с представителями данных этнических сообществ. Цель исследования заключается во вскрытии специфических характеристик американских курдов, карпатских русинов и турок-месхетинцев на современном этапе, в определении закономерностей, относящихся к проблемам их ассимиляции и адаптации. Стоит отметить, что тема диаспор исследуемых непредставленных народов в США практически не освещена в отечественной научной литературе и недостаточно объёмно представлена в зарубежной, что позволяет заявлять о наличии новизны исследования в данной работе. Работа состоит из трёх глав, посвящённых соответственным сообществам. В каждой из глав раскрывается суть исследуемого народа как особой этнической группы, излагаются особенности иммиграционного процесса, связанного с представителями данного народа, и характеризуются механизмы ассимиляции и адаптации на современном этапе, относящиеся к иммигрантским сообществам выходцев соответственного этноса в Соединённых Штатах. Автор приходит к заключению, что к закономерностям развития сообществ непредставленных народов в Соединённых Штатах Америки на современном этапе можно отнести в основном малоквалифицированный вид профессиональной деятельности, сложный и крайне важный для адаптации процесс формирования общественных, социальных и религиозных институтов, низкий уровень участия во внутриполитической жизни страны и широкий интерес к международной политической обстановке, имеющей прямой отношение непосредственно к их этнической группе.

The bachelor degree paper examines the problem of unrepresented peoples communities in the United States of America at the present time. The research of the degree paper is focused on Kurds, Carpatho-Rusyns and Meskhetian Turks diasporas in the USA. Particular attention is given to processes of assimilation and adaptation connected with representatives of these ethnic communities. The objective of the present study is to explore specific characteristics of the American Kurds, Carpatho-Rusyns and Meskhetian Turks at the present time, to determine the patterns related to the problems of their assimilation and adaptation. It might be well to point out that the topic of diasporas of the studied unrepresented peoples in the USA is almost not covered in Russian scholar literature and is insufficiently presented in foreign that allows to declare existence of research originality in this work. The paper consists of three chapters devoted to corresponding communities. In each of the chapters the essence of the studied peoples as a special ethnic group is revealed, features of the immigration process connected with representatives of these people are stated and the mechanisms of assimilation and adaptation at the present time relating to immigrant communities of respective ethnos in the United States are characterized. The author draws a conclusion that it is possible to carry to specific characteristics of communities of the unrepresented people development in the United States of America at the present time such features as generally low-skill type of professional activity, difficult and extremely important for adaptation process of public, social and religious institutes formation, low level of participation in internal political life of the country and deep interest in the international political situation connected with their ethnic group.
