The shipbuilding industry of the Republic of Korea and the People's Republic of China: a comparative analysis of competitive advantages

Abstract

Судостроительная промышленность является одной из наиболее конкурентных отраслей. Стремительное развитие мировой торговли, постоянное совершенствование научно-исследовательских разработок и технологий, а также усложнение процессов производства судов обостряет соперничество между крупнейшими судостроительными предприятиями за обладание лидирующего положения. На сегодняшний день главными конкурентами на мировом судостроительном рынке являются Республика Корея и Китайская Народная Республика. Страны постоянно повышают технологический потенциал и совершенствуют инновационные методы строительства сложных типов судов с высокой добавленной стоимостью. Стратегии судостроительных предприятий двух стран направлены на занятие доминирующего положения в отрасли в долгосрочной перспективе путем приобретения большего числа конкурентных преимуществ.

The shipbuilding industry is one of the most competitive industries. The rapid development of world trade, the constant improvement of R&D technologies, as well as the complexity of ship production processes intensifies the competition between the largest shipbuilding companies for gaining a leading position. Today, the main competitors in the global shipbuilding market are the Republic of Korea and the People's Republic of China. Countries are constantly improving their technological shipbuilding capabilities and improving innovative methods of building complex high value-added types of vessels. The strategies of the two countries' shipbuilding companies are aimed at gaining a dominant position in the industry in the long term by acquiring a greater number of competitive advantages. The purpose of this study is to conduct a comparative analysis of the competitive advantages of the shipbuilding industry of South Korea and China.
