| ru_RU |
dc.description.abstract | This paper examines France's foreign policy in the field of security in the Sahel region. The reasons for Paris' active military involvement in the affairs of the African continent are defined on the example of five countries: Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali, Mauritania and Chad. Postcolonial approaches are used as a theoretical tool to overcome the economic determinism inherent in the domestic scholarly view of the relationship between France and the countries of the Sahel region. The paper examines the evolution of security relations between the countries from the colonial period to the current policy pursued by the current president, Emmanuel Macron. A significant part of the study is the definition of the successive change in France's policy towards the former colonies, which is more evolutionary than revolutionary in nature. The main conclusion emerging from the study is the slow transformation of institutions and practices that impose on France certain significant military commitments to the countries of the Sahel region due to its past "special relationship". | en_GB |
