The Neoplatonism of Flavius Claudius Julianus as a Synthesis of Philosophy, Mythology and Theurgy

Abstract

Данная работа посвящена исследованию неоплатонического учения Флавия Клавдия Юлиана. Император Юлиан получил известность прежде всего как автор политических и религиозных реформ, которые продолжают привлекать исследователей различных направлений в попытках разобраться в политико-религиозных изменениях современной эпохи, вызванных типологическим сходством эпох. Учитывая это, обращение к изучению неоплатонизма Юлиана как к фундаменту его политических и религиозных воззрений представляется актуальным и восполняет лакуну в отечественной истории античной философии. В работе на основе анализа таких ключевых понятий неоплатонизма, как миф и теургия, раскрыты особенности осмысления мифологии и теургии в неоплатонизме от Плотина до Юлиана. В свою очередь, проведенное исследование позволило определить значение мифологии в неоплатонизме Юлиана и показать место теургии в пергамском неоплатонизме (Саллюстий, Юлиан). В итоге были раскрыты особенности и структура неоплатонического учения Юлиана. На примере неоплатонического толкования Юлианом феномена света раскрыта специфика неоплатонизма Флавия Клавдия Юлиана как синтеза философии, мифологии и теургии.

This work is devoted to the study of the neoplatonic teachings of Flavius Claudius Julianus. Emperor Julian gained fame primarily as the author of political and religious reforms, which continue to attract researchers of various directions in attempts to understand the political and religious changes of the modern era, caused by the typological similarities of the eras. Given this, an appeal to the study of Julian’s neoplatonism as the foundation of his political and religious views seems relevant and fills the gap in the Russian history of ancient philosophy. Based on the analysis of such key concepts of neoplatonism as myth and theurgy, the work reveals the peculiarities of understanding mythology and theurgy in neoplatonism from Plotinus to Julian. In turn, the research made it possible to determine the meaning of mythology in the neoplatonism of Julian and to show the place of theurgy in Pergamum neoplatonism (Sallustius, Julian). As a result, the features and structure of the neoplatonic teaching of Julian were revealed. Using the example of Julian's neoplatonic interpretation of the phenomenon of light, the author reveals the specifics of Julian's neoplatonism as a synthesis of philosophy, mythology and theurgy.
