The chapels in Serbian churches of the reign of Dušan (1331—1355)

Abstract

The paper analyses the principles of arrangement and decoration of chapels in Serbian churches of the reign of Dušan (1331—1355). In contrast to the preceeding period, during these years the chapels acquire again a more important meaning: they may house wall-paintings expressing some particular ideological concepts, and their architectural arrangement often appeals to the traditions of Rascia school. The development of these tendencies during the second half of the XIV centory will became an important element in the shaping of the architecture of Morava school.
