The EU influence on the process of self-determination of Catalonia

Abstract

Выпускная квалификационная работа представляет собой исследование, посвященное анализу сепаратистских процессов в Испании, на примере Каталонии. А также влиянию Европейского союза на данные процессы. В соответствии с поставленными задачами в ходе исследования были рассмотрены и изучены проблемы самоопределения автономных регионов Испании, их причины и последствия, а также проведен анализ участия Европейского союза в процессе самоопределения Каталонии. В результате проведенного исследования автором были сделаны следующие выводы: среди основных причин, которые имеют влияние на сепаратистские процессы в Испании можно выделить три базовых фактора, первым из которых является желание наций, проживающих в автономиях, иметь свою собственную культуру, традиции и язык, а также быть независимыми от центра в политической и экономической сфере. Следующей из основных причин является бездействие властей, которые недооценивают происходящие в обществе процессы, и своевременно не предпринимают нужных действий. Наконец, завершающим фактором выступает недоверие к властям, сопровождаемое чувством незащищенности. Также автором был проведен анализ влияния Европейского союза на процесс самоопределения Каталонии, из чего следуют следующие выводы: Европейский союз выступает за целостность Испании, и за то, чтобы данный процесс был урегулирован внутри самой страны. В случае отделения Каталонии Европейский союз не примет новое государство в число своих государств-участниц.

The graduate qualification work is a dedicated to the analysis of the separatist processes in Catalonia and the influence of the European Union on this process. In accordance with the objectives, the study examined and studied the problems of self-determination of the autonomous regions of Spain, their causes and consequences, and also analysed the participation of the European Union in the process of self-determination of Catalonia. As a result of the conducted research, the author has drawn the following conclusions: among the main reasons that have an impact on the separatist processes in Spain, there are three basic factors, the first of which is the desire of nations living in autonomies, to have their own culture, traditions and language, and be independent of the center in the political and economic sphere. The next major reason is the inaction of the authorities, which underestimate the processes taking place in society, and do not take the necessary actions in a timely manner. Finally, the final opposition is distrust of the authorities, accompanied by a sense of insecurity. The author also analysed the influence of the European Union on the process of self-determination of Catalonia, from which the following conclusions: the European Union stands for the integrity of Spain, and for the process to be settled within the country itself. In the case of the separation of Catalonia, the European Union does not accept the new state as one of its member states.
