«A Day in the Life of Kubo the Novelist» by Pak Taewon (1909–1986) in the context of culture and history

Abstract

В начале XX в. Корея переживала насильственную модернизацию и потерю независимости. Корейские писатели того периода активно искали новые формы самовыражения и экспериментировали с новыми жанрами, которые стали известны после модернизации. Одним из этих жанров был модернизм, который обращался к внутренним переживаниям индивида. Один из самых ярких произведений этого жанра считается повесть «Один день из жизни писателя Кубо» (1934) Пак Тхэвона. Это автобиографическое произведение, где главный герой бродить по городу, размышляя о счастье, в поисках материала для своей новой книги. В данной дипломной работе представлен не только анализ произведения, но и описание культурной и исторической ситуации, которая сложила в Корее к 1930-м гг. Работа состоит из пяти глав, оглавления, введения, заключения, списка литературы и приложения, где представлены реальные фотографии Сеула начала прошлого века. Также автором работы был выполнен перевод фрагментов оригинального текста повести на русский язык, и эти фрагменты включены в текст данной работы.

In the beginning of the 20th century Korea experienced forced modernisation and was about to lose its independence. Korean writers at that time were actively searching for new forms of self-expression and experimented with new genres to which they were introduced after modernisation. One of these genres was modernism and it appealed to the inner experiences of the individual. ’A Day in the Life of Kubo, the Novelist’ by Pak Taewon is one of the most vivd works of that genre. The main character of this autobiographical novel is wandering around the city looking for happiness and new material for his book. After analysing the novel in this bachelor thesis certain facts were presented such as description of the cultural and historical context of 1930s in Korea. The thesis consists of 5 chapters, table of contents, introduction, conclusion, bibliography and appendix where one can find real photos of Seoul in the beginning of the 20th century. The translation of the fragments of the original text to the Russian language was made by the author of this thesis and they’re are included in the text of the thesis.
